Photography Training in Buckinghamshire
When I’ve been speaking about my photography course that I’ve just recently completed, I try and find the right words to describe it because it is like no other. It isn’t similar to what a university or college would offer, it is so much more than that. What they offer at Training by Lumiere with their six month foundation programme, is a unique way of combining the technical skills to create beautiful imagery as professional photographers and the skills to set up and maintain a successful and ever growing photography business. From the comfort of their beautiful home in Steeple Claydon.
The Foundation Programme
The programme runs from September to February and each cluster of modules is taught over two days every month. Which is just the right amount of time because the course is intense! Before you know it a month has passed by and you’re already sitting on that lovely blue sofa again.
Here are the breakdowns of what we’ve just completed but this may change in years to come.

Home Away From Home
Like I said earlier, this isn’t any old course. Kate & Brent welcome you into their home with open arms and copious amounts of coffee, tea and sweet treats to keep you alert and refreshed throughout the day. If you’re lucky enough to get in early they do also open up their home as a B’n’B on a first come first serve basis so you can relax and not have to worry about finding a place to stay for your next day of training. I would really recommend doing this; I felt so comfortable and didn’t have to worry about shooting off of an evening to get to a hotel. Plus they do an amazing cooked breakfast! Please note that the b’n’b service is at an added expense. Lunch and dinner are provided with the course (they wouldn’t dream of letting you starve, there’s a lot of information to be retained and food is our fuel!)
Sharing is Caring
These guys hold nothing back. Throw any question at them and they will answer it proudly. The whole point of the programme is to share knowledge and educate and inform individuals on the in’s and out’s of running a brilliant photography service. They say that there’s no point holding back because no matter what, we will never be able to get the same image they have taken. They will also never tell you to do anything. They advise and encourage but will never tell you how to run your business or what products to use because it is all down to you. It is your creative business and is unique to the individual.
Over the years, they’ve accumulated lots of industry friends that they are happy to introduce you to. From creatives that specialise in branding and website design to accountants and print lab experts.
If you didn’t know this already I entered a competition last year that lead me to win myself a place on this fantastic course. If you’d like to read about the experience please click here.
The Price is Right
I don’t want anyone to be put off by things like price. I’m mainly aiming this at those who are considering going to university to study photography for three years and be £30,000 in debt and not really get anything out of the experience. Please look for opportunities like this one as an alternative to uni because I can guarantee that this will better you more. You’re being taught by current industry professionals. Did I mention that Kate was a Nikon Ambassador? Yes this programme is definitely an investment but one that you will get so much out of.
I would just like to say a huge thank you to Kate, Brent & Becky for this amazing opportunity and to let them know that I am so grateful to them for sharing their knowledge and support to each and every one of us that was on the foundation programme. I am honestly still blown away that this has happened to me and I’m so glad I made that 60 second video because it really has changed my life. I love the quote “life begins at the edge of your comfort zone” so if you’re thinking of taking the leap to become a successful photography business owner but you’re anxious or scared, then I only have one thing to say to you. Jump out of that comfort zone and book yourself a place on this life-changing course. Let Kate, Brent & Becky fill you with the confidence you need, just like they did with me.
It has been an experience that I will never forget as it was the foundation for me to be able to create my photography business. I wouldn’t have had a clue where to start if it wasn’t for Training by Lumiere. I’ve met some friends for life and gained so much more knowledge and confidence that I needed for me to be able to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional photographer.
I’m going to leave a link to the Training by Lumiere website here. If you have any questions about the course then I would recommend emailing the lovely lot at Training by Lumiere as they will be able to provide you with the relevant information you need.
There’s also a wee video where you can watch me talking about the competition and the foundation course. I’ll leave it here.
I’m very excited for what the future holds for Bethany Lavin Photography, so watch this space!
