Morning folks! I hope October has treated you nicely. Hasn’t it gotten cold?
I’m such a British cliche it’s untrue. Forever talking about the weather.
I’m excited about November! My birthday is coming up this weekend and it means that we’re closer to Crimbo…
I’ve had a busy month – I photographed my first full day wedding under my biz AND started a new job. Which is very exciting.
Today I have a whopper of a blog post and it’s all about Surrey wedding venue, Nonsuch Mansion in Cheam. I got in touch with the fabulous Steph who’s one of the wedding coordinators at Nonsuch because I wanted to do a Q&A blog post. She’s very kindly given some insight as to what it’s like to have your wedding at Nonsuch Mansion.
So if you’re already getting married/thinking about getting married at Surrey wedding venue Nonsuch Mansion, this blog post is for you.
What makes Nonsuch special Steph?
This Tudor gothic mansion is steeped with history, dating back to Henry VIII. The amazing bay windows mean that you can look over the exquisite walled gardens which looks beautiful all year round.
How many weddings do you host a year?
Is the Orchid room the only room you can get married in?
Yes, we are only licensed to hold ceremonies in the Orchid Room. It is a large room which can hold 120 people. For smaller ceremonies, we can close the door in the middle of the room to create a smaller room for more intimate ceremonies.
Who is the point of contact for booking a wedding at Nonsuch?
There are three wedding planners here at Nonsuch Mansion and your point of contact will be your wedding coordinator.
What time does the evening reception finish?
Our license ends at midnight with the last song at 11:45pm. Couples can extend the license at an additional cost of £500 an hour.
Are fireworks allowed?
No to fireworks but sparklers are allowed. Sparkler photos are very popular.
Can people stay in the mansion overnight?
Unfortunately not, but we have some amazing hotels within 15 minutes of the mansion. This gives the bride and groom the opportunity to have a lovely send off.
Do you offer menu tastings before the wedding?
Yes, included in the price is a shared tasting night at Nonsuch. You get to try three starters, three mains and desserts as well as canapés and Prosecco. If a couple wishes to have a second tasting, there is an additional cost and the tasting takes place at the Head Office in Wandsworth.
Does the whole park get shut off to the public?
Unfortunately not as it’s a public park. The section directly in front of the mansion does get roped off at each side. The pathways are also closed and the formal lawns become exclusive to the couple. This is perfect for the drinks reception.
How long has the mansion been hosting weddings for?
Around 30 years!
Have you ever had any disaster moments?
We once had a groom that was at the pub with pre-wedding jitters who slightly lost track of time and was late. The registrars were ready to leave when suddenly he turned up. Phew!
Do you have packages people choose from? Or is the price dependant on factors such as the number of guests, how long they want to hire the mansion for etc?
We don’t believe in a ‘one fits all’ approach as every wedding is bespoke to the couples needs. However, we do have suggested guidelines to help the couple put together their day.
What is your role, if any, on the wedding day?
Your wedding planners role on the day is to make sure everything runs smoothly and to time. We act as the main point of contact for the couple and are there at any point for questions. We want you to relax and enjoy every minute of your special day!
What trends have you seen at Nonsuch this year?
Country garden, eucalyptus leaves, white, green and natural colours have been very popular this year! Naked cakes and cheese cakes too (actual cheese wedding cakes cheddar, brie etc)
What trends can we expect to see next year?
We believe that people will take inspiration from the royal weddings of Harry & Meghan and Eugenie & Jack.
There’s even a place to hang the wedding dress! Every photographer’s dream!
What an amazing venue. Full of history, character and charm in every room. I want to thank the lovely Steph at Nonsuch for inviting me to the Mansion to take these images and answer my questions!
I hope you’ve found this blog post useful.
If you’re a bride getting married at Nonsuch but you haven’t yet found your photographer, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’d love to shoot a wedding here!
