Booking a Second wedding photographer
In this blog post, I’m going to be delving into why you should look into booking a second wedding photographer for your special day.
This question pops up a lot in client consultations and I thought I would give an insight as to why having a second photographer is a good idea.
Having a second perspective on your wedding day is never a bad idea. You won’t have to worry about who’s preparation images you’d rather have captured and you’ll have extra ceremony shots, showcasing the back of your wedding outfits and special moments throughout the service. I will always pick a second shooter who has a similar style to me so that your images will look consistent throughout your wedding gallery.
Another pair of hands
For me, having another pair of hands is SO helpful on a wedding day. The day itself can be rather stressful for us memory makers, so having someone else there to help take the stress away can be a god send. I’m talking about the little things like carrying bags, getting stuff out of my car when I’m shooting, helping to organise group shots and grabbing me a quick drink (only water for me sadly).
I can't be in two places at once
I don’t believe they’ve mastered human cloning yet, so unfortunately I can’t be in two places at once. This is something important to consider when creating your wedding timeline. I was particularly grateful for a second shooter I had recently, as the timeline I had been given, didn’t give me enough time to shoot couple portraits, group shots, guest candids and room details. I stuck to the couple portraits and group shots, while my second focussed on capturing guest candids – my favourite images (like the image below) and details shots of where the wedding breakfast was taking place. If I didn’t have my second with me, I wouldn’t have been able to capture those shots for my couple.
Now theoretically, if I’ve got another pair of hands, offering another perspective because I can’t be in two places at once, you would hope that when you’re wedding gallery has been delivered you’ll be given more images. The answer simply, is yes. I don’t give an exact number of image deliverables because each wedding is different, but if you’ve booked a second photographer you will receive more than just my images.
Still wondering if you should book a second photographer? Well here’s some other things you should consider if you’re on the fence. If you’re wedding has lots going on – i.e multiple venues, amusements and other cool shit, it’s probably worth having twice as many people capture your special day. Equally, if you’ve got lots of guests coming like over 150, I’d recommend having another tog come along if you want a varied wedding gallery with lots of guest candids in it.
Now I don’t want you to fret. You won’t have to go looking for another photographer if you’ve already booked me. This is my job! I have a LOT of industry pals that I’ve worked with on many other weddings that can help me shoot your wedding! Plus, now this is an extra bonus, if I’m working with someone I’ve already worked with before, chances are, we’re gonna make magic together. It is SO much nicer when working with people who are friends but can still be professional with.
