Couple Direction and Posing Workshop
Last month I ventured up to Hoxton for Lex Fleming‘s Couple Direction and Posing Workshop hosted by LWBC at The Flowerpot Hoxton. The weather was fabulous as was the company, it was great to see some industry friends and develop our skills further.
The day started with tea, coffee and biscuits (yaas) which was followed by Lex giving us an intro to her experience and then we dived straight into the theory part of the session. The information I learnt here was so valuable and I can’t wait to put it into practise with my own couples over the coming years. She also told us about these wicked fractal filters which I need to get my hands on!
After learning about the theory we watched the master at work – Lex had asked one of her 2020 couples to come along so we could see how she leads her couples in their portrait session. This was also incredibly valuable. I’m someone who learns through doing and while the theory part goes into my head somewhat, the practical part just reaffirms and solidifies the knowledge into my brain so I don’t forget it.
Then lunchtime approached (which I was super excited about because FOOD) and we all gorged on the good stuff from Honest Burgers. After we stuffed our bellies with burgers, the attendee’s put into practise what Lex had taught us on two other sets of couples, Aniello & Darren and Micaela & Dylan.
While half of the group were with the couples, Sophie & I were asked to be a couple so that Lex could show the other attendee’s something to do with composition and light.

We’d had our fun photographing the two couples so we headed back to The Flowerpot to continue learning and the next section of the workshop was on group shots. Lex went through what she does on a wedding day and showed some epic examples of her work. I’m so grateful that she was willing to share her knowledge with us and for anyone who’s looking for a great workshop on couple’s direction you must keep up to date with her on Instagram for when she runs the next one.
